Corrian los años 1963 y 1965 , se lucian las actuaciones solistas de Bob Dylan, y con Joan Baez , dichas presentaciones donde había ganado gran popularidad entre la gente de Newport, pero el 25 de julio de 1965 Dylan fue abucheado por algunos fans cuando tocaba con el apoyo de Mike Bloomfield en la guitarra y otros miembros de la banda conocida como la Paul Butterfield Blues Band , mientras que se habia anunciado como cabeza de cartel del festival. Se suele decir que el motivo de la recepción hostil de la gente, era que Dylan 'abandono' la gente de la ortodoxia , o la mala calidad de sonido en la noche (o una combinación de los dos). Este incidente, en el primer concierto de Dylan 'enchufado' de su carrera profesional, marcó el cambio en la dirección artística del folk al rock, y tuvo implicaciones más amplias para ambos estilos de música.

Willie Nelson se unió a Ray Benson y Asleep at the Wheel y grabó un proyecto inspirado en el fallecido Jerry Wexler de su álbum de música swing Texas. Willie y Asleep at the Wheel, aparecieron en el show de David Letterman, y grabaron un concierto en la ciudad de Austin Texas para la celebración de su 35 ª temporada. El álbum apareció en muchas listas "Best of 2009" , quedando en el Top 100 de Billboard, donde ganó el grupo para la nominación al Grammy.

The “Blues and Gospel Train,” filmada 07 de mayo 1964 por Granada TV para la BBC. Los aficionados que tuvieron la suerte de conseguir entradas-unos 200 de ellos-fueron instruidos para que se reúnieran en la estación central de Manchester a las 7:30 de la noche para un corto viaje en tren a la estación de Wilbraham. Cuando el tren se detuvo en el camino en Wilbraham, el público se derramó enseguida para encontrar asientos en una sola plataforma. Al lado opuesto, decorado para parecerse a una antigua estación de ferrocarril en América del Sur, que sirvió como escenario para las actuaciones de Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, la hermana Rosetta Tharpe, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, Joe Cousin y el reverendo Gary Davis.
